BSNL Beats Reliance Jio, Offers 56GB Data At Rs 339

Many Indians are using free services that are provided by Reliance Jio from past six months including free voice calls, unlimited internet, and SMS. However, the free streak is going to end soon.
March 31 will be the last day to enjoy the free services. However, Jio users can join the prime membership and can enjoy the same offer at the price of Rs 303. Almost every other telecom operators in India are now offering unlimited data at similar price group.
Recently Airtel started offering 14GB of data along with unlimited Airtel to Airtel calls for 28 days at just Rs 145. Now, BSNL has finally taken the plunge into one of the fiercest battle going on in the telecom arena.
BSNL has introduced the Rs 339 plan without any particular membership. Well, the Rs 339 plan brings unlimited calls to BSNL network and users will get 2GB data every day for 28 days. The customers will also get 25 minutes of a free call to another network every day and after that users will be charged 25 paise per minute long phone call.
BSNL In a statement said “The benefits customer will get under the Combo STV (special tariff voucher) of Rs 339 are unlimited calls in BSNL network and unlimited data with fair use policy of 2 GB per day with validity of 28 days,”
However, one thing to note here is that the data BSNL is offering is 3G, not 4G. However, if we take a look at the speed provided by Reliance Jio, BSNL’s 3G pack might be the best choice for many because Reliance Jio’s 4G speeds are very slow.
BSNL Director for Consumer Mobility RK Mittal said “We are committed to providing affordable and efficient services to all segment of our loyal mobile customers. We offer best prices to our customers considering present trend of Indian telecom industry,”

Latest Rules On Provident Fund Withdrawal You Should Know: 10 Facts

According to provident fund norms, 12 per cent of an employee’s salary goes into the fund along with a matching contribution from the employer.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has been taking many steps to ease the process of provident fund (PF) money withdrawal. The PF money can be withdrawn after two months from the cessation of employment. The application form can be filed with the PF authorities or through the employer. PF is meant for saving towards retirement years. Financial planners don’t advise withdrawal from the corpus before retirement. According to provident fund norms, 12 per cent of an employee’s salary goes into the fund along with a matching contribution from the employer. The EPFO (Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation) every year announces interest rate to be paid on the accumulated provident fund corpus.
Here are 10 things to know:
1) To encourage long-term savings, the government has formulated tax laws accordingly. If the withdrawal from a recognised PF happens after five years of continuous employment, it attracts no tax liability. In case of employment with different employers, if the PF balance maintained with the old employer is transferred to the PF account of the new employer, it is considered a continuous employment.
2) If an employee has been terminated because of certain reasons beyond his or her control (such as ill health and discontinuation of business of employer), the withdrawal does not attract any tax, irrespective of the number of years of employment.
3) In case of a withdrawal before five years, the amount becomes taxable in the same financial year. Thus, the amount has to be shown in your tax return for the next assessment year. The employer’s contribution to PF and interest earned on it is added to one’s income and taxed accordingly.
4) In addition, if you have claimed benefits under Section 80C on your own PF contribution, it will be taxed as salary. The interest earned on your own contribution will be taxed as ‘income from other sources’ and taxed according to the respective tax slabs.
5) TDS (tax deducted at source) – If the withdrawal is after a period of five years of continuous employment, it attracts no TDS or any tax. What happens if the period of service is less than five years? If PAN has not been submitted to the EPFO authorities, TDS is deducted at 30 per cent. If PAN has been submitted along with Form 15G/15H, no TDS is deducted. If form 15G/15H is not submitted and PAN is submitted, TDS @ 10% is deducted. Form 15H or 15G is meant to prevent TDS for those whose income falls below the taxable limit.
6) The funds transferred from a recognised provident fund (PF) account to a National Pension System (NPS) account will not attract any tax, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) said in a circular dated March 6. “The amount so transferred from recognised Provident Fund/Superannuation Fund to NPS is not treated as income of the current year and hence not taxable,” the pension fund regulator said.
7) The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation has come out with a single-page form for provident fund related claims – from provident/pension fund withdrawal to the advance facility.
8) In addition, an Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation or EPFO subscribers can submit the new one-page form directly to the retirement fund body without the employer’s attestation if their accounts are seeded with Aadhaar and bank account details.
9) For subscribers who are yet to seed Aadhaar and bank details, a new composite claim form has been introduced which has to be submitted with attestation of employers for any claims.

10) Also, no other document would be required to be submitted by the subscriber for taking advances from the provident fund corpus. A provident fund subscriber can go for partial withdrawal/advance from his or her corpus for specific purposes like purchase of flat, construction, marriage/education of children etc.

Free Wi-Fi Provided to 5 Million Passengers at 115 Railway Stations in February: Prabhu

.
Free Wi-Fi services have been provided to 50 lakh passengers at 115 railway stations across the country and the railways propose to provide such facility in running trains too later, the Rajya Sabha was informed Friday.
Replying to a question during Question Hour, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said the execution of Wi-Fi facility at 400 railway stations has been entrusted to RailTel Corporation, a subsidiary of the Railways, without any fund allocation by the government.
“The number of passengers using the Wi-Fi services at all stations was approximately 50 lakh in the month of February at 115 stations so far provided with Wi-Fi service,” he said.
A total of 400 railway stations will be covered in the first batch and the criterion adopted to instal the service depended upon the volume at stations.
Prabhu said Wi-Fi facility, being a public service, was not just provided to railway passengers but also to all visiting the stations, including a large number of students.
“Of course, there is also a proposal to provide it in running trains,” he said responding to a query from a member, adding that the facility is available in some trains already.
“We will try to give it in most trains,” he said.
Prabhu claimed that the use of Wi-Fi at stations was being regulated by guidelines issued by Department of Telecom and no case of violation of these guidelines has been reported.
“All DoT guidelines are followed so that no website banned by DoT can be opened,” he said.
The Railway Minister also claimed that the facility as provided by Google was according to them “the biggest and fastest public Wi-Fi in the world”.
To another question on whether the stations in the east would be covered, he said, “Because the Sun rises in the East and we cannot ignore the East.”
In reply to a question on provision of solar powered panels on rooftops of trains, he said the Railways have provided solar panels on rooftops of 19 narrow gauge in Norther Railway and 4 broad gauge non air-conditioned coaches in service for use of electrical energy generated in train lighting system on a trial basis, which would save a total of Rs. 41,000 crores over a period of 10 years.
“Indian Railways have embarked upon a mission to save Rs. 41,000 crores over a period of 10 years through efficient energy management and power procurement,” he said.

H-1B visas: Here’s finally some ‘good news’

WASHINGTON: The US has assured India that the H-1B visas issue was not a priority for it and would be part of the larger immigration reforms package that the new Trump administration is working on.
The assurance came amid an ongoing debate in the US and reported moves by the Trump Administration to bring out an executive order to curtail the use of H-1B visas.
“There was a sense that there is a recognition of the contribution of the Indian tech sector. Certainly this is not very much…not a priority of the government. They are concerned with the immigration issue…most of the issues are quite different,” visiting Commerce Secretary Rita Teotia told reporters at a news conference here.
“Nevertheless when it is addressed, it would be part of the overall immigration package,” Teotia said. Teotia, along with Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, is currently in the US meeting top officials of the Trump administration and the Congressional leadership.
India has been trongly taking up the case of H-1B visas with the Trump administration.
During their meetings with the top administration officials, including Commerce Secretary William Ross, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly and with the Congressional leadership, the visiting Indian officials conveyed that H-1B is a “category of trade and services” which actually helps American economy to be more competitive.
“If the Trump Administration’s intention is to bring back American companies to America and attract more foreign investment in America and therefore have more growth in the near term, then it was important growing America remains competitive. So, there would actually be (a) growing need for this partnership,” Jaishankar said.
H-1B, he noted, was a trade and business issue and not an economic issue, even though in the US context it was seen as part of the immigration basket.
“What I would remind you that the President himself in his address to the Congress preferred a merit-based approach to the subject. We heard across the board a lot of respect expressed for Indian skills in the United States,” Jaishankar said.
“We have certainly made our point quite forcefully both in the Congress and the Administration. We believe it has been met with a degree of understanding,” he said in response to a question.
